What's on in the Kinder room?

The Kinder children are extremely settled and many friendships have begun forming and consolidating. It has been great seeing the children’s confidence building and extending their play from their individual interests.

On a weekly basis, the children participate in Bush Kinder. So far, it has been a great addition to the program. The children have been connection with the land and community as they searched for, located and identified bugs.

Bush Kinder has encouraged plenty of open-ended interactions among the Kinder children involving the environment and habitats. They were all very enthusiastic explorers, and were captivated by their natural surroundings.

The ELLA program has been introduced to the Kinder program at Wallan. It is an exciting digital language learning program and it opens up a world of cultural possibilities for children early in life. The Kinder children at Journey Wallan have been learning Italian. So far they have learnt how to say hello and good-bye, and have learnt how to ask "what’s your name?" followed by answering with “My name is…”. The children can also count to 10 and know variety of colours.

Every Friday the Kinder children head down to the Wallan Library to participate in story time, songs and craft activities. During this session they listen to a story and then participate in an art activity that is based on the story. At the end of the session this week, the children had lots of fun enjoying the bubble machine.

Each week in the Kinder room, we choose a letter for the children to focus on for that week. The children bring in show and tell according to the letter that we have chosen. This week we have been focusing on the letter "P" where we created penguins in an art and craft experience, played a game with a parachute. We also explored pumpkin seeds and discussed the life cycle of the vegetable.

The Kinder children thoroughly enjoy a variety of incursions ranging from animal encounters such as the hatching chick program, educational talks, and shows.

Looking forward to next month, we are excited to be doing a tour of Woolworths as well as welcoming Pet Town, which is a dog-safety program.

The children in our Kindergarten program are always enthusiastic about the variety of excursions we offer, and the experiences that stay with them forever. In the Kinder room, we focus on our structured room routine while allowing flexibility in preparation for the children's transition to Primary School.
